$10 bucks says the mother was single and her boyfriend did the damage which the kid incurred over a prolonged period of absence, days or weeks, from his mother. The mother is just as culpable.

And if the real father caused the abuse, the mother is still responsible for not having read subtle signs that she was married to a motherfucking monster.
