youre right gilian. this one is called Van Nes Rotationplasty. say the middle portion of you rleg is cancerous but above and beneath that is not. patients can have this alternative surgery in lieu of a complete amputation. the leg is attached backward so as to function as a knee and later a prosthetic device is used for the lower leg (calf).
