I found this quite astute in regards to religious discussions.

I don't believe in God, nor to I believe in any diety ordering and controlling things from up above. Fate, maybe. Things seem to happen for a reason. Perhaps thats just the way life is.

Oh that's ridiculous. I mean, raptors aren't blue.

I was raised Catholic along with Greek Orthodox. Mom wanted to expose us to both denominations (Dad was one, Mom the other,) so we could make the choice for ourselves. But today I'm somewhat of a mutt. There are bits and pieces of many religions I believe in, including Buddhism, Christianity, Wicca, Judaism, 'New Age' beliefs, etc. It works for me. I went through many phases of wondering if there is a God or a higher power. But after choosing to believe there is something greater than myself, life just became easier. Who cares if religion is man-made when it's working out for you.

Nope, not a tiny bit:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evolution

But I do believe I would find some kind of comfort in having a belief towards some god. And I actually envy those who has, a bit.

I was going to try and work that in to my above post but didn't. I still envy those Sunday morning church-goers. I don't know how they do it. Now I'm not referring to those who fuck up all week, redeem themselves on Sunday and then start over on Monday. I mean those whose lives revolve around God. I'm impressed by such faith and devotion. And they're always so happy. I think that's what got me to quit wondering, being so doubtful of things. Once I dropped that and chose to believe, things fell into place. There's definitely comfort in bed time stories.

Yeah. It is also because I wish it was all made by a god. It would all make a little more sense. And things would be less complicated.

But on the other hand, religion has been the cause of millions of deaths through out many centuries because of wars and crusades, people thought some had 'wrong' beliefs.. and we still witness this today

So religion is for me a thing that has brought mankind into killing each other and caused A LOT of pain (of course we don't know what would had happened without religions, but yeah)

But it is also a safe hideout to just go and live a normal life with a PURPOSE...

I was raised catholic too, and I've hated the church ever since I was an altar boy.

So much of the old testament is pure fiction. How can any one believe in it?

i wasn't really talking about belief so much as simple knowledge. i don't believe in it, but having read the book of genesis when i was younger i know about it. it just surprises me that the self-proclaimed christians here (especially the catholics) haven't even thumbed through the first three pages of the book they base their religion on

Oh. I had it drilled into my head by those horrible nuns. I know the bible pretty good because of those ...nuns *shudders* .
