Drinking spring water and thinking:
Sports, to me, are pure distraction of the worst sort. There are wars being fought, glaciers melting, and diseases running rampant. Sports are somewhere on the same importance level as American Idol or that stupid game show with Howie Mandell. I don't give a shit if the Colts win, lose, or have a collective wet fart. Sorry to be a shindig shitter, but hey, that's the way I feel. "Shports" feed the "us vs them" mentality that is a prerequisite for nationalism and, for that matter, war. It's pretty damn hard to get excited about a game when you aren't rooting for one team or the other, am I right? In much the same way, it is pretty hard to build support for an invasion of another country without blind patriotism obscuring any rational analysis of the root causes of a conflict. When we invaded Iraq because of their supposed WMDs, it was blind, patriotic cheerleading that made it possible for us to forget that we were the ones who gave Saddam chemical and biological weapons capabilities in the first place. You ain'ts got to call me "un-american". I'll tell you right now, I ain't patriotic. I believe in following the golden rule, and my golden rule doesn't stop at the Canadian border or the Mexican border or any other bullshit line that some dude drew on a map. So, to patriotism and sports, I say: "yawn". Oh, and while I'm at it: what's with these lying-ass "freetraders"? They be selectively quoting Adam Smith and shit. Adam Smith was for the free movement of capital, yes. But he believed that it needed to be combined with the free movement of labor in order to be beneficial. So, with that in mind, I say we get rid of all national borders, starting with the Mexican border. Hey, they have just as much right as any of us to trash the planet, shop at Target, and drive SUVs to bullshit tailgate parties; so let 'em in, g'damnit. I ain't scared of losing my job or of my standard of living going down. It has to happen eventually. Wealth is like blood in a circulatory system. And the tools and institutions that we use to maintain the unequal distribution of wealth in the world amounts to a clogged artery in our collective ecomonic system. So, I say we follow Adam Smith's advice, and the best way to do that is to pull out an eraser and erase the lines on the map that some rich assholes drew for purely selfish reasons. Then labor and capital can move about freely. From there it will work itself out on its own in a few decades. Simple, easy, and done. So, remember when you're sucking down beer and potato chips this Superbowl Sunday; you are an enabler of the parasitic elite who would just as soon murder you all as look at you. Have fun!
