Any hope to change this?
Sounds like he has separation anxiety, which means the dog gets into a severely distressed state due to being overly bonded to its owner.

Your best hope is to take your dog to obedience school/classes and try to reduce the attachment he has to you. It won't be easy and will take a lot of patience on your side but your dog is probably having lots of panic attacks throughout the day, especially when you're not there. That just makes him want to be near you more and more when he is around you. If it's severe enough he can be medicated to make the anxiety go away until he has learnt to be ok by himself and not be too dependent. Then he will be able to go off the medication.

Good luck.. he's gorgeous!
