Children Tortured by Step-Father--

The stepfather of two children, aged just 6 and 7 years old, pleaded not guilty of 58 charges of child abuse.

When doctors finally examined them, the boy had a broken left femur and rib as well as five other possible rib fractures, and 29 bruises.

The girl had three fractured ribs and 44 bruises, including extensive bruising covering her entire shoulders.

The children's mother said in a statement tendered to the court that she started seeing the man in April 2007 and he began smacking the boy six months later.

"I felt powerless and sat there and cried," the mother said, recalling the first time it happened.

She said the stepfather began taking both children into their rooms and hitting them every day.

Abuse was noted but nothing done to remove the children for over two years...

In October 2007 the boy was taken to hospital with a genital injury he said happened when he "stacked his bike". The boy later told a relative the stepfather had inflicted the serious wound - which required surgery - with pliers.

The stepfather was remanded in custody to face the County Court in August.

But in Germany guys like him get a special preventive detention to be protect from other prisoners.

Here for child abuse you go to jail maybe for 3 years, but for tax evasion you get 8...

But the Highest Penalty is now 15 Years.(Rape) and on the Changed Law the Person get Locked away into preventive detention.With Rape+Murder it´s give Life Penalty ,but this is in Germany not under 15 years Jail only.Then the Person can get out ,checked by a Court.Some get then after 15 Years out,Red Army Fraction (Terroists in the 70th) up to 30 Years.(After the the Jail).But the Germany Judges not use this very often.Most Penalty are here really low.O.k in some get last Time up to 8 Years.But 8 Years for a destroyed life of a Kid..... ?!.

How come the article doesn't say that the mother is facing charges too?

She is at least equally to blame. She brings some nut into her house and watches him abuse her children, she has the primary responsibility to protect them.
