Giant crack in Africa
A crack in the Earth's crust – which could be the forerunner to a new ocean – ripped open in just days in 2005, a new study suggests. The opening, located in the Afar region of Ethiopia, presents a unique opportunity for geologists to study how mid-ocean ridges form.

I remember reading this a few days ago or so, pretty intense. It's also pretty amazing we're witnessing such a drastic step in the planet's evolution process. Going to be interesting to see how this looks in a couple million years...not saying our species will be here but I can only imagine.

Honestly I wish something big would happen sometimes. Not for a lot of people to be hurt, but to see the Earth change in some drastic manner.

I was expecting a pic of a HUUUUGGGEEE african person's ass.
Still, this is pretty neat. Geology is weird in that it actually can seem pretty damn cool and interesting at first, but then you realize that all it involves is rocks and billions of years of SLLLOOOOWWWWWW changes. |
