Paris Hilton sentenced to 45 days in jail

Hotel heiress and reality television star Paris Hilton has been ordered to spend 45 days in jail for violating the terms of her probation for alcohol-related reckless driving.

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge ordered the 26-year-old celebrity socialite jailed for driving on a suspended licence in February.

He ordered her to report to jail on June 5.

Judge Michael Sauer made the decision after a two-hour hearing during which Hilton insisted she was unaware that her driving privileges had been suspended when she was pulled over for driving without headlights on February 27.

Hilton was placed on three years' probation earlier this year for pleading no contest, the equivalent of a guilty plea, to alcohol-related reckless driving after a September 2006 arrest in Hollywood.

She landed in hot water again in late February, when she was pulled over on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood for driving without headlights.

Police impounded her car, a $190,000 blue Bentley, when they discovered she was driving on a suspended licence.

Hilton's latest legal problems come a little more than three weeks before her reality TV show, The Simple Life, co-starring her friend Nicole Richie, returns to the airwaves for a fifth season. The series has already been taped.
'Sorry'

The millionaire heiress to the Hilton hotel empire looked close to tears as she wailed "I'm sorry, I'm sorry" just moments before receiving her sentence at downtown Los Angeles' Metropolitan Court.

Paris' parents, Rick and Kathy Hilton, both looked visibly upset as the sentence was handed down to their daughter, one of the world's most photographed and famous women.

Prosecutors had warned they would seek a jail sentence for the blonde style icon but it did not deter Hilton from testing the patience of the court by turning up for her hearing at least 15 minutes late.

Dressed in a dark suit with a white blouse, with her blonde hair swept back in a pony tail, Hilton did not comment as she arrived, running a gauntlet of at least 60 paparazzi and reporters.

Court documents described her decision to repeatedly keep driving as a "flagrant" violation of court orders and demanded that she be given a custodial sentence.

They also alleged Hilton failed to enrol in an alcohol education program within 21 days of the order directing her to do so.

Just because Paris Hilton was sentenced to 45 days in jail, it doesn't mean she'll do the time. Because of overcrowding and other issues, L.A. inmates often get sprung early.



Former "Lost" star Michelle Rodriguez was sentenced to 60 days in the very same facility in which Paris is scheduled to do time for the very same offense -- probation violation over a DUI conviction. Rodriguez served a grand total of 2 hours before jail officials told her to get lost.

While her pals are hanging in Malibu or the Hamptons, Paris will be spending 45 fun-filled days and nights with 2200 of her closest female felons at Century Regional Detention Facility (CRDF).

Reopened in March, 2006, CRDF is located in beautiful Lynwood,Calif. -- just minutes from nearby Compton! While Mr. Chow takeout isn't available, according to the AP, CRDF does serve three low-sodium poultry based meals a day. Yum! For her own safety, Paris will most likely be segregated from the rest of her prison pals and live in a one or two-person cell. Cozy. During her days at Chez Clink, Paris will get just one hour a day to shower, exercise, watch TV or talk on the phone. And sorry to say, Blackberries are not allowed. Oh, the humanity!

As for wardrobe choices, Paris will have the option of one of four different colored jumpsuits. Depending on how she is classified and where she is housed in the facility, Paris could don a blue, brown, white or classic orange one-piece from the House of Detention collection.

Paris better get crackin', because with June 5 fast approaching, it gives her just one month to plan her kick-ass going away party!
