Free Registery Cleaner

I would like to know if anone in the forum knows were I can get a free registery cleaner. I have seen numerous sites were a company will check your computer on line for you and tell you where the pronlams are, but then they want to be paid to fix them. My computer is running on WINDOWS XP and I have noticed lately it's taking longer and longer to boot-up. Also has anyone know if there is any truth to the rummer that booting up is hard on you computer and for the amount of power it takes you are better off to leave your computer on all day instead of turning it on and off numerous times during the day. THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT, BRUCE

Thanks for the help! I tried CCLEANER and it works great. It's scary how much space a cluttered registery can take up opn your hard drive.

Mark Russinovich (Winternals) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Russinovich suggests registry CLEANERS r all a waste of time. He has subsequently sold out to micro$oft so don't know how much credence to place in his comments . I don't use them any more.

The wikipedia link is to let u know how well respected he is in the industry. Don't expect to read his opinions on registry cleaners in that link.

I can do all that in FF tools.

Reg cleaners used in default mode fuck shit up if anything at all in my experience.Waste of time and possibly make certain apps quit.

Dont fuck with the registry unless you know.

Booting is the hardest on your PC. Some leave it on all day for weeks on end. But sometimes your paging file needs to be cleared & that basicly requires a reboot. Lot more can be said but will leave it at that.

I use it too & since it came out has never slowed down in popularity. Fast, free & you can analyze everything 1st.
I Do Not nor Would I trust Ccleaner (formerly Crapcleaner as said above) for my registry. Your registry is way to important & way to easy to mess up or take one key key for it to be inoperable etc etc. I love freeware but there's about 5-6 things I buy & one is a reg cleaner. Done lots & lots of research yrs ago & decided on
jv16 PowerTools here http://www.macecraft.com/testimonials/ & the FAQ http://www.macecraft.com/faq/
It includes numerous other tools as well like having a Add/Remove of everything installed on your pooter including those not included in the MS add/remove (which is quite often)
If you cannot pay either because you can't afford it or because of ignorance (lack of knowledge) how sensitive the registry is they have came out with a free version (before I forget ALWAYS ALWAYS make backups. ALWAYS) here http://www.macecraft.com/ptlite/ All it does is clean the registry. No bells & whistles. I have compared it to the default in my paid version & stacks up close enough. They are a long time trusted company & I am very picky on these things.

I've read many comparisons & I was impressed at how much info was given by this review. Yes, it was done by Macecraft the makers of jv16PowerTools but still they did a job.
http://www.macecraft.com/registry_cleaner_comparison2/
To sum it all up. Don't trust just any reg cleaner. Listen to others, do your own research on top of it &... I forgot.
Here's a few more FAQ's. I am not promoting the product Ok http://www.windowsaccelerator.com/20...stry-cleaners/

Yeah a sell out. He's good. Really good. I wish I had the knowledge that he has in his fingernail clippings Lol. That happened in 2006. I use his Task Manager "Process Explorer". Don't tell them but if it wasn't free anymore I would pay $100 for it. You'll find it here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/s.../bb896653.aspx or v 10.21 here http://www.filehippo.com/download_pr...explorer/1816/ I prefer the older version. They just updated need to give it a whirl.
I will read the entire article you gave too. Thanks.

Some techies feel the same way. Your right. If a program messes up to bad you'll wish you had made recent backups & hopefully have a reinstall disk on hand too. 1 critical key gone will have you kicking yourself.

I hope I've helped you Sputum80 some if not others who will come across this. Good day

I'm adding.
Some folks have zero idea what their looking at though. So even if they read it they... mess up. I hope you see what I'm saying here.
For me I have to remember where I was at at one time. Some never progress in their knowledge nor care too. That irks me bad bad. Touchy subject
