How do you trace a unkown/private number?
How do you trace a unkown/private number from a cell phone? I have a female friend who is getting prank phone calls on her AT&T Cingular cellphone. The number comes up "private". Any help would be greatly appreciated.

we have this: http://www.commsalliance.com.au/documents/codes/C525 but you can also call your provider and have them check their phone records, if it is harrasment the person gets traced by your network provider and sent a nice threat typed up by a lawyer.
edit: or they disable/screen for that number. Last edited by D.O.A.; May 19th, 2008 at 09:21 PM.. |

Thanks for the reply. Here is what has happened so far since the phonecalls began. The first 2 phonecalls the man calling identified himself as a potential client for buying a house. The female real estate agent shows up, however (let's call him X) Mr. X does not. A few weeks later X calls back making sexual threats. X calls at several different times of the day. After all of this the female real estate agent is afraid to show any real estate without having a friend/associate with her. The provider says there is nothing they can do when she called them. There seems to be no answer in identifying this man.

try *77 anonymous call rejection (ACR)- available on most cell services but some areas use different codes.
When you've turned this service "on" any callers who have blocked their number from your Caller ID display will hear an announcement that you do not accept anonymous calls - and they should remove Blocking and call back. All other calls will ring through as usual. one bad thing is it does not block “unknown” or “out of area” calls. These calls come from people who did not block their Caller ID, but for whom the telephone network failed to transmit the Caller ID information. They can also be international calls. Those calls should rarely or never be telemarketers, as they are required to send Caller ID information. so this should stop the calls because they will have to forfeit there information to complete calls. in turn if they do call you will have more info to forward to the police. there is a service to help with blocked calls through http://www.harassingcalls.com/. this service will unblock all incoming calls. i know this sounds like alot of rambling but this info can help. |
