I`m looking for 300Mbps on my laptop

It`s currently @ a measly 54Mbps which is all I can get with the router the new ISP sent me..
Can someone give me a few pointers on which router would be best to invest in,to get the 300Mbps?
I here that an N router would get me the better signal but would like your opinions before I buy,on brands, requirements etc
Much obliged

You won't be able to get 300Mbps even from an N router; but it would definitely be an improvement over G router. Linksys routers are known to be reliable. Try to look for other stuff, some routers allow a usb hard drive to be connected and then it is visible on the network.

Ask your neighbour which equipment he is using and buy the same. Also ask him how is measuring the speed of transfer and he might not be able to give you any answer!
Never believe manufacturers advert or sales stuff.
It is also quoted as "UP TO" as it will never run at full speed. The N routers will often spread across the band. The wider the bandwidth the higher the signal required to achieve the full data transfer. N routers will detect others and interference and lower the bandwidth accordingly to keep a high speed.
It isn't perfect, but slightly better than B/G routers.
