Uhhh, only if you overdraw your account on purpose (foolish) or accidentally (oblivious, stupid). The idea with using a debit card is not to spend money you don't actually have. Overdrawing is functionally similar to passing a bad check.

Also, overdraft protection in quite inexpensive and can vastly reduce or negate the fees involved with overdrawing.

Personally, I use a debit card or cash and keep a credit card for emergencies. I try to keep $10,000 in my checking and savings at all times, then beef that up if I know I'll have to make a large purchase soon. The only thing I'd need to take out a loan for at this point in my life is an expensive motor vehicle, and I don't buy expensive motor vehicles, so that's not a problem.

Neither a borrower nor a lender be really is the wisest course of action.

Uhhh, Mr. Yaag is obviously a financial expert b/c he firmly grasps the mechanics of credit vs. debit and is generally a lover of people being in debt and thou shalt not question his judgment b/c it is 100 percent correct or thou shalt be smitten with a random lightning bolt of wisdom.
