I believe what you see is a rod placed there to show the projectile trajectory in the picture. Given the small orifice entrance, I guess a .22 caliber was the weapon as well.

I can tell you he definitely wasn't expecting that shot, and given the body position and all that jazz, I guarantee the killer was someone he knew very well.

Yes, I watch "48 hours" on A&E.
