Who owns one? Are they any good?
I'm not a huge fan of console gaming, but they look like fun. Any known problems with them? Are they really that good or just a load of hype?

MMMmmm good fun not to expensive the boy used it a lot for few months then bailed now it sits even bought the fitt thing for him that didn't get used after 2 weeks.

I can answer some of your questions.

The Wii is a solid and reliable machine, like all of Nintendo's consoles have been over the years. There are original NES consoles in existence today that still work after almost twenty-five years.

That's compared to the XBox 360, which originally just died randomly when it was first released, and I can guarantee you that even the newest models won't work for shit in ten years.

There are some problems, though. Since the Wii was designed to use a gay-as-fuck gimmicky control scheme where you wave a stick around like a complete moron, many of its casual games (and not a few serious ones) are developed around this concept. Good news is, a lot of serious games do allow you to just use a gamepad.

As for its library of games... well, Nintendo's proprietary games are always good. Metroid, Mario, Legend of Zelda, Smash Bros., Mario Kart, and etc. are sure bets. As for third-party and casual games, I don't know and don't care to know.

You can download SNES and SEGA games and play them on the Wii (and pay for the privilege), but personally I just use a PC emulator, and you should too. However, the Wii is backwards compatible with most GameCube games, so you get access to that library as well.

All-in-all, it's cheap, solid, it has a fairly good library of games, and you might as well just get one. Perhaps you're also the type of person who enjoys casual, stick-waving gayness as well, which is all the more reason to get one.

I like the idea of stick waving gayness, but I am a girl. I knew they were compatible with the game cube games, but it's new info about the others. Thanks SB.
I'm not going to pay for the experience though, I already use a rom emulator on my pc for old SNES and Sega games, so I'll just stick to that for those.

Update:
So I went to buy the Wii today. After a bit of research and looking at the games, I decided it was just a wee bit (no pun intended) too kiddy for me.
I ended up getting an Xbox 360, with a few games and guitar hero 5. It rawks

It was a tough choice, the only thing that really appealed to me was the Lego Star Wars and Wii Fit.
