When I uploaded the Escape Velocity theme song, apparently YouTube magically sensed the song's origins.
It's not original; it's actually a classical piece titled "Mars, The Bringer of War," written circa 1915 by British composer Gustav Holst as part of an orchestral suite. A wide variety of contemporary orchestras and even the U.S. Air Force band have played it. I'd suspected the song was "open source"... indie developers and musicians are nice and all that, but they usually aren't able to produce true masterworks of art or music. "Mars, The Bringer of War" just illustrates the timelessness of classical music to me. No matter when a piece was written, it never seems "old" (except by familiarity) and is always relevant.

I am pretty tired of Mars, bringer of War. It seems to be a recurring theme for games and movies. (gladiator especially comes to mind as the main theme of the game seems to be a direct rip off of 'Mars'.)
Now we are seeing western games start the 'Hanz Zimmer drone'. A wobbly dance incorporating actual timeless pieces of music for synthesized orchestra. Thin line existing between artist and plagiarism. As in most cases, Gustav Holsts original work is superior to every emulation. The Planets, is a wonderful programmatic piece though from what I understand Holst became annoyed with its success at the exclusion of appreciation for his other work in the public eye. Still, I'd love to hear it live at some point.

Man, what the fuck man, Final Fantasy VII? What the fuck!
And I gave your application a perfect 10, shit on toast. Sephiroth was a long-haired faggot with mommy issues who was defeated by a girl, a stuffed animal, a one-armed negro, and an effeminate blonde emo kid.

It was inevitable that One Winged Angel would come up in a thread of this kind.
Here's an arrangement of a theme.... Does anyone remember this?
