I can recall at least two occasions where I used creature possession to get a first person view of the torture chamber and jelq'd. But then again, I was still working on obtaining God-like proportions of pubic hair. Hitting the space bar in front of strippers on Duke Nukem was enough to assist in the epic battle of the male teenage sex drive. Last edited by Surgeon; October 8th, 2009 at 05:24 PM.. |

Speaking of Descent, Freespace 2 is commonly regarded as the best space combat simulator of all time.
I tend to agree, and there are even fan-made graphical enhancements that make the game look 10x better.

Yeah, Blackthorne, Another World, and Flashback are all Prince of Persia-type games.
I didn't list Another World personally for the same reason I didn't list the original Star Control or Freespace: Flashback is essentially the sequel to Another World by the same company, and in each case, the sequels far exceeded the original.

I consider flashback to generally be closer in gameplay structure to blackthorne than to Another World.
Actually, I wouldn't necessarily consider Flashback a sequel at all to AW. There was a sequel made for another world and it sucked ass, Heart of the Alien or something gay. Still, the concept of having a non playable character aiding and abetting you in your escape in Another world was a novel idea that worked great. I didn't like how much trial and error was needed to get through the game. There were completely ridiculous game situations with little or no explanation as to how to proceed at a given point until stumbled upon by sheer dumb luck. Kind of annoying, but in lieu of the fact the game itself is so short, perhaps this was a necessary design. But yea, generally games of that design had the worst play control ever. I hate trying to play these games now. Nosferatu (snes) is a bitch as well. Another World is a much shorter game but for some reason it is still fairly fascinating for me to get into.

Flashback will fuck you in the ass if you give it half a chance. Attention waned for a second and you fell off a high ledge? Start the level over. Stuck in a small space with death spheres? Go back to that distant save point. Can't get through this ludicrous death trap/obstacle course that requires precise timing with fiddly controls? Keep trying, bitch! That was back when games were hardcore, nowadays you get infinite lives and can bypass any obstacle the second time you play it if you die the first time.
