Well, I had an SNES and Genesis emulator on my PSP and probably still do, but I never play games unless I'm at home, so it's been awhile since I've messed with all that shit.

I can tell you this, though: You usually need a certain firmware version to install and use homebrew apps. If your version is too recent, you can find methods online to roll back your firmware version and whatnot. Also, homebrew apps (last I checked) tend to only work on certain versions of firmware, so the authors have to keep them updated to the latest "cracked" firmware version so everything stays compatible.

Google "PSP homebrew" and other related terms to find out more, but be prepared to do some reading, and be careful where you get your programs if you need to download something. Early on in PSP homebrew history, there was a firmware roll-back program that "bricked" people's PSPs, not a good thing.

Snes and Genesis, NES, GBA and perhaps mame emulators are what I want to install. Given the relatively low file sizes of roms and emulations for at least the first 4 mentioned emulators, I should be able to find a way to make it work from the standpoint of size limitations.

Interestingly enough, I've gotten 2 psp's in the last week. (AWESOME DEAL) Each is a different version; one being fairly current and the other being a much older model. I'll have to look into the specifics before I can say anything further about possible contingencies involving cracking and all that/

Given I have a mac to work with, I am hoping this doesn't compliment matters further with upgrading these emulators onto the psp... lol

Pessimism is the only course.

You need cfw on your psp to start. once you have that, you would generally put the emulator, games, etc. in you PSP/Game or game150 folder, depending on which psp you have. I was able to run an NES emulator on mine perfectly. the SNES emulator I installed would run, but there were too many slowdown issues to make it worth it.

from your main menu, go into system settings/system info and post your firmware version here. the older one should be easy to work with. depending on how new the other one is, you may not be able to mod it to run homebrew apps or emulators.

There are certain psp's that currently cannot have cfw flashed to them yet (the 3000 series for example) I recommend (hope I am allowed to post the link here) http://www.psp-hacks.com there are forums there with tutorials on just about anything psp related as well as lots of homebrew apps like emulators. I have genesis on mine and the majority of it works quite well. I frequent that site as I like to keep my psp up to date with the newest custom firmwares and such.

In my mind, these hacks are allowed b/c they aren't accessible to computers but exclusively to the psp models, so it should be fine.

http://www.psphacks.com/forum/genius-bar-tutorials/

i generally go here, as there are not only tutorials, but they usually have quite a few cfw variants directly on-site.

I'd recommend upgrading to 5.50 GEN-A, simply due to the fact that if you're looking to DL and play many of the newer available games, you'll need something equivalent to the latest Sony OFW. 5.00 m33-6 just isn't cutting it anymore ;_;
