The top 100 Evolutionarily Distinct and Globally Endangered Mammals

Recent studies indicate that almost 75 per cent of the world’s most extraordinary threatened mammals are receiving little or no conservation attention.

If these species go extinct, they will be lost forever. There are no similar animals on earth to replace them. The top 100 Evolutionarily Distinct and Globally Endangered (EDGE) mammals are highlighted below.

How many species have gone extinct since there has been life on earth? I would venture to say...alot. I'm sorry but I just don't get emotional about that type of stuff. There will always be animals here.

They will eventually be able to decode and recode DNA molecules to "recreate" any form of life, extinct or not.

To say they will be lost forever is not necessarily a bad thing. They are going extinct for a reason, just as the millios of species before it. Mother nature knows better than we.

No argument wanted here gentlemen, but I do think it's kind of sad as human beings and citizens of the planet, that we're losing unique and original species of animals.
This little fellah looks kinda cute.
Reminds me of The Flintstones vacuum cleaner...

I had a think about this and I don't know why people seem to think it's our responsibility to save the wildlife from extinction when more species have alrady gone extinct -that have been no fault of our own- than are currently around today.

No matter how many reserves are set aside, as soon as other humans decide they want the land or its resources at some stage in the future, it will always be us over any animals.

It's the way of life from ultra civilised Northern Europe to the backwaters of Rwanda.

I think you're right about the natural selection aspect of everything having it's time and extinction being part of the order of things.
But, I also believe there's no harm and it might even be our duty, being the dominant species, to try to do what we can to help out these unique and wonderful creatures.
A friend of mine has a little boy, and she takes him to The Museum of Natural History here in NYC, and he calls it "The Dead Zoo".

They say that around 2075 most of our seafood industry will be gone. Which sucks cause then we have to come up with an alternative to surf-n-turf. Poor Nemo.
