The conservation efforts with regard to (necessary deforestation) in the US are probably the best in the world. When a tract is cleared. New planting takes place. Wood is wood. We need it.

Hemp is a viable alternative to wood in many areas, but govts around the world have their stupid bias toward the plant, so ignore the huge economic and environmental benefits it would provide. Maybe the U.S has some showcase programs in place to create the illusion that the forestry industry is highly responsible in the way it does its business, but even if that is true, the rest of the world is fucked. Massive areas of rain forest in Asia, Africa, South America and even virgin forest in Canada are being desecrated by corrupt governments and greedy industrialists, and the is no regrowth! Often regrowth is impossible due to the acidity of the soil.
Yes we need wood, but we also need to have laws restricting how we use it. The wood pulp industry that supplies the raw material for paper manufacturers uses huge amounts of wood. Paper wastage worldwide is staggering. Daily newspapers, photocopiers, shitty fucking advertising pamphlets etc etc the list goes on and fucking on. |

Hemp would've put DuPont out of business. It was a smart business choice for them to lobby against such a useful product as hemp in the 30's as development on a global scale would threaten their financial status as a leader in textiles and industrial circles. It clearly would've sent them into bankruptcy had it become a mainstay of industry for the masses as nature intended for it to be...
Amazing how such an amazing item, with so many uses, clean, efficient, strong is completely wiped out of legality for such sub standard reasons as, financial insurance for a fortune 500 company. Hemp is one of the more useful things the earth can muster up but then again usefulness always takes a seat to economy. Dupont, you are a fucking asshole.
