For the jackasses that say the pig can't defend itself:

Did you notice that most of the dogs were wearing what looks like a vest? Those are cut vests made out of ballistic nylon or kevlar. There is a reason why they are wearing those vests. Those hogs do have tusks. Although small on a hog of that size, they still cut.

Believe it or not, the injuries to the hogs are minor. The dogs catch usually by the ear (the same place tags are put in those pigs you get your pork chops from) and are removed as soon as possible. It's much less serious than the wounds that they get from fights with each other.

That being said, I don't like those competitions either only for a different reason. It's just dumb. I hunt hogs with dogs much like you see in the vid. The difference is that I do it for a reason other than a trophy. I hunt them because I would prefer to eat natural food than the bullshit you buy in a grocery store. Is it cruel? Fuck no. It's the law of nature. It's much more humane than a coyote disemboweling and eating a fawn while it's still alive. Maybe you should go criticize them.

I love hog hunting. I have a hog dog named Jughead that just loves it too. He has been cut several times. Hell we just sew his ass up he's ready again. I have found that the smaller hogs in the 200 lb range are the most deadly for the dogs. They're also are the best eating. We killed one about 300 lbs yesterday. The river where I have a house is over flood stage and the hogs are concentrated on the hill tops. We just ride around in the boat looking. When we find them we release the dogs and they run em to us. Kaboom.... bacon from hell.In my part of the south hogs are considered pests. Open season year round.

Same here. We have a hunting club that is loaded with them. We just can't use dogs on that club. The places we hunt with dogs are usually farms where they are eating the crops.
