Not hard to accept your punishment if you truly believe you've violated the will of God, and you truly believe the only remedy for that is death by stoning. You're just doing what your religion calls for. Submitting calmly to this stoning for this guy is likely no different then a catholic person confessing his sins to a priest. It's just something they believe they must do for spiritual reasons.

Don't do the crime if you can't take the rock.
