Though it was jaywalking, there are two lanes. They guy could have slowed down and made the slight lane change in the amount of time from when they started crossing the second section of the street. The person driving either didn't have his eyes on the road due to a personal distraction or didn't care until it was too late.

What a stupid, stupid bitch.

She could see how fast the traffic was moving surely there must have been a safer place to cross? It's sad that her own laziness cost the life of a child as well as her own.
